This policy explains how Energy Wiz (the iOS and Android apps, the web app at app.energywiz.ca and this website) collects, uses and protects personal information. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

1. Information We Collect

• Account information: name, email address, optional phone number, and sign-in details managed by our authentication provider
• Workspace information: workspace names, team members, their roles and invitations
• Property information: property name, type, service address, province, and optional floor area, occupancy and operating hours
• Energy data you add: bill periods, kWh, costs, meter readings, rates, budgets, alert rules and an equipment inventory
• Bill and nameplate photos or PDFs you choose to scan (see section 3)
• Questions you ask Wiz, our AI energy coach
• Notification settings and, if you allow notifications, a push token for your device
• Diagnostics: crash and error reports including app version, device type and the screen where the error happened
• Website enquiries: what you submit through our contact or demo form, plus the page and campaign that brought you to us

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the service: dashboards, usage and cost calculations, forecasts, budgets, alerts, reports and team access
• To send the notifications and emails you choose (alerts, reminders, reports, invitations), respecting your quiet hours
• To provide support, investigate problems and keep accounts secure
• To reply to website enquiries and, only if you opted in, to send occasional product news
• To improve Energy Wiz using aggregated, non-identifying statistics

We do not sell personal information and we do not use your energy data for advertising.

3. AI Features

When you scan a bill or an equipment nameplate, the image is sent to an AI model to read the values. You review and confirm every value before anything is saved. The image itself is not stored by Energy Wiz; we keep only a fingerprint of it to prevent tampering.

Wiz, our AI coach, receives numbers Energy Wiz has calculated for one property (usage, costs, rates, budget, equipment estimates and alerts) plus the property’s name, type, city and size — never your email or street address. AI requests are routed through OpenRouter to the AI model provider that handles them. We may also use TypeSafe AI to rank which insights matter most. These providers process the data to return a result.

4. Service Providers and Where Data Is Stored

We share information only with providers that help us run Energy Wiz, under agreements that protect it:

• Clerk — account sign-in and authentication
• Vercel and Neon — application hosting and our database
• Supabase — storage of the reports you generate
• OpenRouter (and the AI model providers it routes to) and TypeSafe AI — AI features described above
• Resend — email delivery
• Expo, Apple and Google — push notifications
• Apple, Google and RevenueCat — in-app subscriptions (we never receive your card details)

Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country. Within a workspace, members can see that workspace’s data according to their role (Admin, Manager or Viewer). We may disclose information when required by law.

5. Security

• Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all apps and our API
• Every request is authenticated and checked against your workspace role
• Staff access to customer data is limited by role and every support action is logged

6. Retention and Deleting Your Account

We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app or web app (Settings → Delete account). This permanently deletes your login and the workspaces you own, including their properties, energy data, reports and subscription records. Shared workspaces must first be transferred to another member so your teammates do not lose access. Deleted data is removed from backups as they expire. App Store and Google Play subscriptions must be cancelled in the store.

7. Your Rights

• Access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your account and data
• Opt out of marketing emails and turn off notifications at any time
• Withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual limits

8. Location

Energy Wiz does not use your device’s GPS location. We use the province and address you enter for a property to apply regional electricity rates and comparisons.

9. Website Analytics

This website uses privacy-friendly, cookie-less analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) to count visits. It does not track you across other sites.

10. Children’s Privacy

Energy Wiz is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We will post updates here and notify you by email or in the app about material changes.
